Universidad Norbert Wiener Partners with Arizona State University to Bring Innovative Global Education to Peru

Universidad Norbert Wiener joins the ASU-Cintana Alliance to offer a unique educational model in Peru that provides students with new academic opportunities.

Lima, January 22, 2023. Universidad Norbert Wiener (UNW) has forged a historic partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), which will reshape the higher education landscape in Peru. This new partnership will open new doors for Peru to support students as they work to develop the in-demand skills needed to solve the challenges of a competitive and changing world, leveraging the content and expertise of ASU to redefine talent-development in Peru.

By joining the ASU-Cintana Alliance, UNW will create a wide-range of new opportunities for the community it serves, including faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students. The connection to ASU, the university ranked number for innovation in the U.S. for eight straight years by U.S. News & World Report, will enhance UNW’s existing curriculum with ASU academic content, bilingual training, and the expertise of excellent teachers from both institutions. Furthermore, the partnership will provide relevant and updated programs according to global trends, producing more competitive professionals oriented toward the innovation demanded by the current labor market.

In addition to changes to the curriculum, there will be opportunities for faculty and students to experience the ASU campus through immersion programs, joint research projects, and other interactive experiences.

“At Universidad Norbert Wiener, we focus on promoting quality education enhanced by the knowledge of national and international experts. Expanding our community ensures we can create an environment where our students have access to the necessary tools to work in a competitive and increasingly international context. By joining the ASU-Cintana alliance, we can improve the pedagogy provided to our students, while working hand in hand with leading experts in innovation, such as Arizona State University”, emphasized Olga Horna, General Manager of Universidad Norbert Wiener.

Universidad Norbert Wiener’s history of certified academic quality started in 2000 when it became the first institution in the country and Latin America to obtain ISO 9001 certification. This was followed by the accreditations of all its health and law majors through the institutional licensing by SUNEDU, its entry into the MERCO Talent (top 15), América Economía (top 15), and research rankings such as SCOPUS (top 21). The launch of the Biocentro Research Center in the Amazon and its most recent achievement, first place in the registration of invention patents in Peru, signal of the continued commitment to academic excellence and ambition.

“A quality education is the most valuable tool for social mobility, yet it remains a scarce resource in many regions,” said Nancy Gonzales, Executive Vice President, and University Provost at ASU. “Our mission is to provide access for learners around the globe and by joining the ASU-Cintana Alliance, UNW can draw on the expertise of other innovative institutions from members from around the world to better serve students in Peru. By working together, we will open doors to access and opportunities for students, and faculty, and through those efforts, deliver a positive impact on the communities our institutions serve.”

The ASU-Cintana Alliance is a global network of innovative and ambitious universities from the U.S., Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, working together to build and scale high-quality academic programs that respond to their country’s economic and social needs. ASU-Cintana Alliance members benefit from access to Arizona State University’s resources such as curricula, expertise in digital learning, and insights into how to build world-class research programs. The ASU-Cintana Alliance was established through a partnership between Cintana Education and Arizona State University.

“Throughout its 26-year trajectory in higher education, UNW has worked to increase its national and international standing,” said Douglas Becker, Founder and Chairman of Cintana Education. “We warmly welcome Universidad Norbert Wiener to the ASU-Cintana Alliance, and we look forward to supporting the institution’s transition to becoming one of the top universities in Peru.”
