Jakarta, Indonesia May 31, 2022 – Universitas Esa Unggul (UEU) has joined the ASU-Cintana Alliance, a global network of ambitious universities working together to develop and scale high-quality academic programs. In partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), the ASU-Cintana Alliance has embraced UEU’s vision to become a world-class university, delivering students throughout Indonesia a premier education. Named the most innovative university in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report for the last seven years and one of the world’s most prestigious universities by Times Higher Education, ASU is also home to some of the top-ranked undergraduate teaching in the U.S. as noted by U.S. News & World Report.

With plans for an ambitious future based on high quality programs, ingenuity, and entrepreneurship, UEU will continue to excel in fulfilling the goals of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in Indonesia. As part of its larger commitment to become a world-class university, UEU will work alongside the ASU-Cintana Alliance and ASU to model best practices from outstanding universities around the world. UEU will embark on a digital transformation to modernize their students’ education experience, enhance their curricula, create new innovative programs, and expand opportunities for research collaborations—all as part of their effort to produce graduates who are competitive in an increasingly global environment. The university’s commitment to excellence extends beyond academics, and includes a focus on supporting the community, both in terms of research results and community service.

Indonesia is the largest higher education market in ASEAN by number of students with 7.4 million students enrolled, 4.4 million of which (59%) are studying in private institutions. The pandemic has been a powerful catalyst for change in an already evolving global education landscape where technology has become a key enabler. Around the world, students have benefited from the ability to access high-quality courses designed with a global outlook while studying in their home countries. For students in Indonesia, this increasingly global learning environment has put an even stronger emphasis on digital skills, high quality education and entrepreneurship.

“With its affiliation to ASU, Esa Unggul University will gain access to global best practices in academic excellence. This will allow Esa Unggul University to transform itself to be a leading international university in the country,” said Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma A.P., MBA, IPU, Rector of Universitas Esa Unggul. “As UEU evolves into this new model where it is powered by ASU, the university will be able to integrate ASU’s content and curriculum into the existing local curriculum, elevating the quality of learning resources available to local students.”

“In many regions of the world, a quality education is hard to find. Yet, innovative, dynamic, exceptional education can be a catalyst for the kind of social, economic and cultural development that is critical to the future of our global community,” said ASU President Michael Crow. “We welcome Esa Unggul to the ASU-Cintana Alliance, and we are excited to have them work alongside ASU and other institutions from around the world as we work to collectively support students, faculty, and community development.”

The ASU-Cintana Alliance was established through a partnership between Cintana Education and Arizona State University. Cintana Alliance members benefit from access to Arizona State University’s resources such as curricula, expertise in digital learning, insights into how to build world-class research programs, and coordinated degrees such as pathways and accelerated master’s that enable students to earn an ASU credential or degree. In close collaboration with ASU, ASU-Cintana will be providing Universitas Esa Unggul with best practices in strategy, technology, and management through its team of experts who have decades of experience in building and growing universities around the world.

“We are thrilled to welcome Universitas Esa Unggul to the ASU-Cintana Alliance. Its ambition to drive impact through scale and innovation, a commitment to high standards, and numerous accomplishments over the last 28 years have greatly impressed us,” said Douglas Becker, founder and chairman of Cintana Education. “As we work collaboratively to develop a more hybrid learning environment—one that is comprised of both robust in-person and digital environments, students throughout Indonesia will have greater access to the high-quality education they need. It will further enhance the institution’s expansion potential, positioning its next chapter as one of growth and innovation.”
